Fat Burners in The News
Fat burners have been in the news for years. Back before 2006, there were only three or four fat burners available. After that time, nearly everyone and his brother began to attempt to create the best fat burner and other supplements that aid in weight loss. The original supplements all contained the ECA stack, whose main ingredients were Ephedra, Caffeine and Aspirin. Fat burning supplements hit the news hard in 2004, when the FDA created a ban on the use of ephedrine alkaloids in many over-the-counter medicines. They believed that even in low doses, this ingredient was unsafe. Fast forward to April of 2005 and the United States District Court acting on behalf of the District of Utah ruled that the FDA actually had no evidence to prove its claim. Finally, in August 2007, the United States Court of Appeals upheld the original ruling by the FDA and declared that any and all dietary supplements that contained ephedrine alkaloids were illegal for marketing within the United States.
This ingredient is still legal in many medicines, but not in dietary supplements. Purchasing is now limited and very carefully monitored to ensure the proper use of this chemical. This is not the only time that fat burners or diet aids have been in the news. There have been other instances in which fat burning supplements have been questioned, bringing them quickly into the limelight. Any supplement that is believed to contain ephedrine will make the front page of any local newspaper as people are still torn between believing in the uses of this ingredient and the health risks that using it involves.

Since the debate on using ephedrine is still ongoing, many companies now produce fat burners that are ephedrine safe. Green tea has been the forerunner in news stories over the past year or so. Green tea, with the active ingredient EGCG, is though to increase the thermogenic and metabolic rate of people on average of seventy-five calories each twenty-four hours. There have been studies done on the health risks and the benefits of drinking green tea over the past years and each time a new development is found, the news is spread like wildfire.
Probably the most commonly known fat burner in the news recently is HydroxyCut. This supplement has been making news since it was first introduced a few years ago. With celebrities of all types sponsoring fat burners, they are much more likely to end up in the news, as did Slim Spa after Anna Nicole Smith’s sudden death. Actually, anytime a new product comes out that could have ingredients potentially health threatening, you will often find that product in the news. This of course, in no way suggests that fat burners are not safe. In fact, when used correctly you can see significant results from them. Just be clear about what you are taking and if you do see a product in the news, pay strict attention to the reason behind the story.
